More about Holmdel/Colts Neck

The picturesque Township of Holmdel situated in central Monmouth County covers a little more than 18 square miles. Established in 1857 from a portion of Raritan Township, Holmdel was home to Bell Labs and it was here that Robert Woodrow Wilson and Arno Penzias discovered evidence of cosmic microwave background radiation while working on the Holmdel Horn Antenna that earned them the Noble Prize in Physics in 1978. The PNC Bank Arts Center is a 10,800 seat outdoor amphitheater that hosts numerous concerts and events, namely during the spring, and summer months. Adjacent to the Arts Center is the NJ Vietnam Veterans Memorial which opened in 1995. Other points of interest are Holmdel Park; a 565 acre park that attracts people all year round for recreation and its natural beauty and Longstreet Farm; an Historic Farm with interpreters in period dress showing daily life in the 1890’s. Both of these parks are run by the Monmouth County Park System. Holmdel also owns Bayonet Farm. A one of a kind 240 acre preserve with farmlands, historic buildings, and miles of trails. The Holmdel School system continually ranks as one of the top schools in the state. In 2012, according to NJ Monthly Magazine, Holmdel ranked in the top 4% of all systems in NJ. Children from town attend each of the four schools: Village Elementary, Indian Hill, Satz Intermediate, and Holmdel High School, home of the Hornets. Besides the schools and other amenities, many people find Holmdel a desirable place to live because of its proximity to both New York City and the Jersey Shore. The transportation system to NY covers rail via NJ Transit, bus service from Academy, or high speed ferry by Sea Streak from the Highlands to lower Manhattan or midtown. A short 15 minute drive puts you on the beach at the beautiful Jersey Shore. The housing inventory in Holmdel covers everything from townhomes, moderate single family homes, and palatial estates. In 2013 the median price for a single family home is about $667,000 and $307,000 for a townhome.
